Known for its skill in creating structured and value-added aluminium extrusions, Metra SpA in Italy has inked a technical agreement with Hindalco Industries Ltd., the largest aluminium rolling and recycling company in the world.

Underscoring Hindalco’s role as a flagbearer in upholding the Indian Government’s vision to foster superior domestic manufacturing capabilities, the partnership aims to make it possible to produce large-size aluminium extrusion and fabrication technology for the construction of high-speed aluminium rail coaches in India. Talking about the agreement, Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries said, “With Metra, we are excited to usher in a new age of aluminium extrusions for passenger trains in India.”

“This is consistent with the capacity-building we’ve done with aluminium in applications including passenger trains, electric cars, goods waggons, and commercial vehicles. Our combined experience will surely improve these trains’ effectiveness, toughness, and sustainability while also setting new standards for the Indian industry,” he added. He noted that Metra, a 60-year industry veteran in the production of aluminium extrusions for the transportation industry, specialises in the fabrication and machining of railway extrusions, offering the Italian company new capabilities to develop and provide premium sub-assemblies for the railways.  The collaboration is a crucial step in bringing world-class technology, currently only available in Europe, China, Japan, and a few other nations, to India by fusing Hindalco’s extensive experience in aluminium manufacturing with Metra’s cutting-edge expertise in aluminium extrusion, machining, and welding.
