The brand-new Ezhou Huahu Airport in China has seen its first international flight operated by Etihad Cargo. The beginning of the freighter service between Abu Dhabi and Ezhou was marked by the carrier’s Boeing 777-200 freighter’s arrival in Ezhou on August 18.

Ezhou Huahu Airport in Hubei Province was created as Asia’s first and fourth professional cargo airport by SF Express, the parent company of Chinese carrier SF Airlines.

The airport, which has a 23,000 square metre cargo terminal and a 700,000 square metre goods transit complex, is anticipated to launch 10 international cargo routes and 50 domestic routes by 2025, with a throughput of 2.45 million tonnes of cargo and mail annually.

Following the carrier’s announcement that it has expanded its reciprocal block space agreement with SF Airlines, Etihad Cargo has now expanded to Ezhou Huahu Airport. This will boost the amount of cargo that can be transported via the Abu Dhabi hub of Etihad Cargo from China to the rest of the world.

Due to this collaboration, Etihad Cargo’s partners and clients now have easier access to 25 domestic Chinese locations like Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Nanjing. For its express service, SF Airlines takes advantage of Etihad Cargo’s extensive global network.

“Ezhou Huahu Airport is the region’s first dedicated, professional cargo airport,” said Leonard Rodrigues, head of revenue management, fleet, and network at Etihad Cargo. Through the nation’s rail, water, road, and aviation networks, it offers access to China’s five national-level city clusters.

New interline prospects with Etihad Cargo’s partner SF Airlines are made possible with the introduction of a weekly freighter route between Abu Dhabi and Ezhou, which also enables the carrier to further increase its market share in China, a crucial market for the airline and its customers and partners.

“We are delighted to witness the inaugural launch of Etihad Cargo’s freighter flight to Ezhou Huahu Airport, marking the beginning of freighter services between Abu Dhabi and Ezhou,” said Luo Guowei, party secretary and chairman of Hubei International Logistics Airport Co.
