Currently, Uttar Pradesh has a 1,100 km long inland waterway that connects Prayagraj to West Bengal’s Halida Port and is completely functioning. Varanasi and Prayagraj both have multi-modal terminals on the river. There are also plans to build India’s first “Freight Village” in Varanasi, which will cover 100 acres and act as a crucial centre for inbound and outbound freight trans-shipment by linking eastern Uttar Pradesh’s exporting centres to eastern Indian ports.

With an expected expenditure of Rs. 4,000 crores, the UP Motorways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has begun industrial development on 100 acres of land adjacent to each motorway project. Along with these ambitious objectives, Uttar Pradesh wants to establish itself as a significant battery and electric vehicle production centre in South Asia. To satisfy the growing demand for electric vehicles, the state is also preparing to build a strong charging infrastructure network along highways and motorways.
