The government has postponed the requirement for transport vehicles to undergo automated testing stations (ATS) inspections until October 1, 2024. In a notification GSR 663(E) dated September 12, 2023, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) extended the deadline for Transport Vehicles to be tested by Automated Testing Stations that have been registered in compliance with regulation 175 of the CMVR 1989.
The government has postponed the requirement for transport vehicles to undergo automated testing stations (ATS) inspections until October 1, 2024.
Additionally, it is required that starting with the publication of this notification, only automated testing stations that are operational in the registering authority’s jurisdiction and that have been registered under rule 175 be used to test the vehicle’s fitness. Prior to this, the ministry established two distinct deadlines for heavy goods vehicles and medium goods vehicles in a notification dated April 5, 2022.
Personal vehicles (non-transport) must undergo fitness testing at the time of registration renewal after 15 years.
The ministry announced that starting on April 1, 2023, an ATS will be required for both big cargo vehicles and heavy passenger cars. The requirement will become mandatory for medium goods vehicles, medium passenger motor vehicles, and light motor vehicles (used for transport) as of June 1, 2024. Personal vehicles (non-transport) must undergo fitness testing at the time of registration renewal after 15 years.
