The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs gave a Green Signal to Tricity Metro Projects

Metro
The Tricity Metro Project has received approval from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs one month after receiving the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP). The Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES)-prepared Metro Proposal will address the growing traffic snarl in Tricity. A 39-km metro network covering Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula has been suggested by RITES, avoiding the heritage sectors 1 through 30. The statement was made by a senior UT official. The ministry has informed us in writing of their decision and that they do not object to the initiatives. In order to request funding, the ministry has ordered the Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) to create a phase-by-phase Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The Tricity Metro Project received approval from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs one month after receiving the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP).

The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 10, 570 crores. The Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) will also include, among other things, bus depots, bus materials, and geometric upgrades at major junctions. Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab gave their in-principle agreement to Rail India Technical and Economic Services’ Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the area in April of this year. The final metro network is divided into two parts and includes Zirakpur, New Chandigarh, Pinjore, Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 10, 570 crores.

The MRTS will operate from Sarangpur to Panchkula ISBT, Rock Garden to Zirakpur ISBT via Mohali Industrial Area and airport, and from Grain Market Chowk, Sector 39, to transport Nagar, Sector 26 in the first phase, which will be built between 2027 and 2037. The second phase, which would be built after 2037, will include four routes: Zirakpur ISBT to Pinjore ISBT; Panchkula ISBT to Panchkula Extension; Parul, New Chandigarh to Sarangpur; and Airport Chowk to Mankpur Kallar.

The second phase, which would be built after 2037, will include four routes.

UT has also finalized seven straight bus corridors crisscrossing the Tricity in accordance with RITES’ recommendation for a robust local bus network, to encourage more people to convert to public transport and ensure a smooth and plane flow of traffic. These seven corridors—Sector 17 ISBT to Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 17 ISBT to Kharar ISBT, Sector 43 ISBT to New Chandigarh, Sector 43 ISBT to Panchkula ISBT, PGIMER / Dadumajra to Zirakpur ISBT, PGIMER to ISBT Panchkula, and ISBT Kharar to ISBT Zirakpur—have the highest traffic flow, according to Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES).
