DFC Going To Be A Game Changer In Indian Logistic Operation

Infra

A government official give gave a presentation at the eastern railways’ headquarters showing how the DFC (Dedicated Freight Corridor) is going to be a game-changer for the regional economy, making the operation climate-friendly by preventing the emission of 457 million tonnes of Cardon-dioxide and enabling a quantum leap in the speed of freight transit between major ports to industrial areas. Four sections of the EDFC (Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor), Khurja-Dadri (46 km), Pt. Deen Dayal Jn.-Sonnagar (137 km), Bhimsen-Chunar (327 km), and Khurja-Bhaupur (351 km), for a total of 861 km, have already been put into service.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor has had a significant impact since loading companies like CONCOR and big cement producers are expected to conduct more loading. It is being done to put solar photovoltaic panels on unused patches of land near DFC tracks, among other projects. The business development plan through DFC includes a number of additional methods, such as the growth of small cargo firms and luring unorthodox freight traffic, including a modal shift from road to rail through cutting-edge goods using the RO-RO/ToT model. A dedicated freight route also benefits from high speed, low operating costs, and underutilised line capacity.

DFC’s USPs for growing the freight sector include capacity, quality, and speed of service. IT packaging, first-mile or last-mile service, the consolidation of e-commerce businesses, business development through incentives, and encouraging local retailers to group local produce for rail deployments from adjacent DFCCIL stations are all intended to bring in money from non-conventional streams. Additionally, there are non-fare income sources such as flyover advertising rights, RubS, RoBs, station buildings and structures, and Dark Fibre Monetisation. Construction of roofs and other structures using renewable energy has taken place in the Landbank.

Additionally, the dedicated freight corridor serves as the Dedicated Freight Information System (DFIS), an internal information system. This programme includes a number of models and crucial performance metrics for EDFC and WDFC that are tracked using DFIS. The DFIS has the tools for live train running details, paperless station management, unusual incident reporting, digital daily MIS report and impact analysis, digitization of key forms and authorities, cadre management, business development reports, analysis and planning of private sidings, business development data, loading/unloading reports, and analysis of other crucial links and works.

A dedicated freight information system can receive actual freight trains now in motion from the COA application of the Indian Railway (via API), and on the basis of embedded algorithms in DFIS, freight train trajectories will be forecasted. Crew arrangements must be initiated by DFIS in CMS based on the anticipated arrival time at the crew changing point. In order to properly monitor the operation of an asset, similarly atypical railway assets like wagons, locomotives, crew, etc. must be put into the ICMS.
