Logistics Company DP World Won A Contract to Operate a Terminal At Deendayal Port In Gujarat

A multinational logistics company DP World announced that the company had won the major contract to build, maintain and operate a mega-container terminal at Deendayal Port in Gujarat, India, under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode. The company won the approval to set up the 2.19 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent units) capacity terminal at Tuna-Tekra port from Deendayal Port Authority under the BOT(build, operate, transfer) basis. The 1100m berth terminal will be capable of handling vessels carrying more than 18000 TEUs, according to the DP world company.

On completion, the terminal will help in the expansion of container traffic in India by supporting imports and exports from northern, western, and central India, lowering logistics costs, and enhancing supply chain efficiency. DP World already operates 5 marine terminals – 2 in Mumbai, 1 in Mundra, Cochin, and Chennai – with a total capacity of approximately six million Twenty-foot equivalent units, with the addition of Tuna-Tekra Container Terminal, the company will have a capacity of 18.9 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent units).

The new terminal will be built and equipped with modern facilities and equipment over an area of around 63 hectares.

With the development of the Tuna Tekra mega-container terminal in Gujarat, DP world will be well-placed to capture the growth potential, and further interconnect Northern, Western, and Central India with the rest of the world. According to the company, DP World’s strategic investments in ports and terminals in the nation are aligned with the Indian government’s vision for 2047, adding that the larger container terminal project will complement various government initiatives, which have been introduced to provide more of a focus on developing multimodal logistics infrastructure to promote economic growth.

The new terminal will be built and equipped with modern facilities and equipment over an area of around 63 hectares. The network of roads, highways, trains and designated freight routes will connect the terminal to the hinterland.
