The government’s plan to mandate that 10 percent of jet fuel be sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030 as part of its Jet Zero policy has been welcomed by supply chain organization Logistics UK.
The new approach was unveiled by the UK government yesterday at the Farnborough Air Show. A £165 million kickstarter fund is also included to promote the growth of the nation’s SAF sector. A specific airfreight representative was also requested by Logistics UK for the Jet Zero Council. The UK’s economy-wide Net Zero strategy, which defines commitments and measures needed to decarbonize the whole transportation system, as well as the Transport Decarbonization Plan are all built upon by the Jet Zero strategy. The new Jet Zero approach establishes challenging environmental goals to guarantee that travelers can travel in the future guilt-free.The strategy, which was revealed at the Farnborough International Airshow, states that the domestic aviation industry in the UK would have net zero emissions by 2040 and that all airports in England will have zero emissions by the same year. Additionally, it provides a plan for the industry to follow in order to reduce carbon emissions below pre-pandemic levels. This plan includes yearly progress reports and activities meant to provide system savings and new technology.

Around 2.5% of the world’s CO2 emissions are currently attributable to aviation.The Jet Zero plan provides a way to future-proof the aviation industry, make it possible to fly guilt-free, and create thousands of green jobs across the country. The sector currently contributes £22 billion to our economy and is expected to increase as it recovers from the pandemic. These fuels offer, on average, greenhouse gas emissions savings of more than 70% compared to traditional fossil jet fuel when entirely replacing kerosene. They are made from waste materials such as domestic garbage, sewage, or used cooking oil. The Jet Zero strategy includes SAF at its core, and as of today, innovative projects wanting to manufacture SAF in the UK can submit bids for a portion of the new £165 million Advanced Fuels Fund. Our goal is to have at least 5 commercial SAF plants under construction in the UK by 2025, and this extra financing will enable us to do so by building on the success of the £15 million Green Fuels, Green Skies competition.
These sort of measures might be successful in the long run and should have been taken a while back
These SAF rules are set to be game-changing to say the least as these rules can help in the long run a lot. The UK Government has made serious measures to reduce the carbon and fuel emissions from the airplanes. This will meet the environmental goals that were initially set and would also lead to guilt-free delivery for logistics partners. UK logistics are the first company to happily welcome the new rules and regulations as they would be likely and more than happy to meet these. Only time will tell whether these rules and regulations can be fruitful and it has the desired results as expected at the start of establishment.
