The Union Minister has said that the commerce industry in the private sector should sit with the Government to reduce the logistics costs.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal insisted that the commerce industry needs to work with the government, in order to reduce the logistics cost of 12-13% to 7-8% which is the usual cost in developed countries like the United States of America and Russia. Piyush Goyal, was in New Delhi as a chief guest for the first edition of the National Logistics awards. He awarded prizes in 12 categories and there were approximately around 169 entries. He was accompanied by Som Parkash Sharma, who is the minister of State for commerce and industry. The planning of this event was going on for more than a year now. The ministry of commerce and industry underwent a year-long process where they identified, evaluated and selected qualified applications. To make the final decisions, a National Jury of 9 senior dignitaries and an Expert Screening Committee comprising 18 various experts were assembled.

Piyush Goyal, our union minister, emphasized the importance of roads, rails, ports, and multi-modal terminals. He felt that the extra spending in the infrastructure industry to Rs 7.5 lakh crore from Rs 2.5 lakh crore would mean investments in these areas. According to Piyush Goyal, GatiShakti will aid in effective planning and implementation, ensuring that there are no last-mile connectivity-related problems. Additionally, he disclosed that the government is seriously considering encouraging the production of containers and shipbuilding. He recognised the value of the logistics industry’s contribution to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, the operators in the logistics industry built robust and effective supply chains that assisted India in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic’s obstacles and supported the expansion of commerce seen over the previous two years. He also urged the industry to pave the way for more start-ups so that it can be more transparent and efficient.

Recognizing the brilliance displayed by the logistics industry, Anurag Jain, Secretary of the DPIIT, said that GatiShakti, Atmanirbhar Bharat, driven by many MSME and Startups of the nation, make the logistics sector extremely vital to India’s economic aspirations.The Logistics Achievement Awards will continue to be an annual event celebrating excellence in logistics within the private sector in India, in addition to the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) report that gauges the appreciation of the State Governments’ efforts.
