Sumadi said, based on data traveller 2022 during the homecoming period, some 2.9 million passenger movements were recorded and in 2019 82 percent of the number of passengers were recorded.

Indonesia’s Minister of Transport Budi Karya Sumadi has projected the aviation industry, both nationally and globally, to soon rise amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, Budi Karya Sumadi has noted during the event that, “I am optimistic that the aviation industry in Indonesia would bounce back in the near future, considering that Indonesia is an archipelagic country that needs connectivity through air transportation”.

The minister said the aviation industry will recover in many countries, although the time and speed of recovery will vary depending on the characteristics of the geographic region and the policies of each country. Further Sumadi has also remarked that, “We need to think outside the box to come up with the best scenario for homecoming, specifically a safe trip, and minimizing inconvenience”. The minister later drew attention to a number of indicators supporting the revival of Indonesia’s aviation sector, including 70 percent of air transport passenger’s domestic passengers, higher vaccination rates, reduction in the number of COVID-19 cases, easing of travel restrictions and an increase in public demand for air transport.

Later on, the minister also remarked, “This also shows that the optimization of aircraft fleet has been effectively conducted to handle the surge in passengers”. During the panel discussion on Tuesday the minister made the statement on the theme “Reviving Aviation, Rebuilding Connections” as part of a series of activities at the 2022 Changi Aviation Summit in Singapore.

Transport minister later also stated, “I hope that this sharing can be useful for other countries in order to revive their aviation industry”. This year’s homecoming period also provides an impetus for the revival of the national aviation industry after the pandemic hit. The homecoming period of 2022 poses a challenge for the aviation industry to meet the high demand from the public amid the dwindling number of aircraft fleet operating from 550 to around 350 aircraft earlier.

Transport minister later also stated, “I hope that this sharing can be useful for other countries in order to revive their aviation industry”.
