The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari has stated that the ministry is trying to look for better transportation systems. Elaborating the statement, Gadkari said that India is looking out for possible cost-effective technologies that are based on electricity for mass rapid transportation in areas that require attention and effectiveness. Therefore, the ministry is planning to take forward the development of alternatives of transport solutions, which are ropeways in the hilly regions and congested urban areas.

Nitin Gadkari mentioned all the plans that the ministry is planning to take up on March 4, 2022, while he was addressing a US audience. He clearly mentioned that he is interested in working on Ropeways, cable cars and other technologies of light rail transport that could help fulfil the needs of these regions. According to the minister, some of the US companies have approached the Road Transport and Highway ministry with the new technology.

However, Gadkari briefed Indian-Americans from Silicon Valley about the steps India is planning to take and the Road Transport and Highway ministry is searching for a cost-effective technology that can be made in India for the purpose of a mass rapid transportation system on electricity. India is making efforts to support and develop the physical infrastructure of the nations, specifically the transportation system. He said that 11 ropeways projects are being planned by the government to speed up the connectivity in hilly areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Manipur. To enable the swift movement of the cargo connecting all major ports and also inland water waste minerals to boost the efficiency of trade routes both international and domestic, for which the implementation of the port connectivity projects has been initiated.

With a length of 2,050 km, almost 65 projects are planned for the connectivity of ports, which are under development with different stages. As an important strategy from the perspective of defence of the nation, 29 emergency landing runways facilities are also being developed for the fighter planes on national highways in India.

The minister also urged the US-based companies to invest in India by saying that the technocrats in the US can participate in the drive to bring about an enhancement in the system for India, as it is allowing 100 per cent of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in the road sector which will open new opportutenities for joint ventures.

Gadkari is expecting and hoping for companies from the US to come forward to form joint ventures to explore the advantages of new technology in the sectors of alternatives, construction, and agricultural practices as well. The minister also mentioned that they are focused to make the road infrastructure of India equal to that of the US by the year 2024.
