In 2015 tata steel choose to shut down one kilns in which that annual rated capacity of 1.2 lakh tonnes for replacement of kiln shell. The company leading a producer of sponge iron, had an annual manufacture capacity of 3,90,000 tonnes of sponge iron from its three kilns, according to its site. But, this year Tata steel started their steel procedure again because the Cumbrian company using UK-quarried limestone to manufacture lime, which improves the quality of steel as well as removes the impurities of steelmaking during the steel material making process.

Shapefell’s Operations Manager,John Baird said “The investment has led to a crucial upgrade for the site. This particular kiln had been mothballed for several years, but we had an opportunity to bring it back on stream to cover production as another kiln comes to the end of its normal lifespan, while new technology which is being used, are being more sustainable and cost-effective”.

The capital that invested in the site, helped the operation process continue and it supported jobs and innovation in Cumbria. John Bair expressed that it is a great opportunity to bring a talented team through rare kiln refurbishment and in the future, this will share the knowledge for future relines. They took the opportunity for virtual work inside the kiln, before it heat up again; which will be used to operate the train to complete safety.

They provide worldwide service. Shapefell’s kiln over a 12year period of time they have produced around 1.5 million tonnes of calcium-rich lime products and brought new technology and partnership to improve the process for Tata steelmaking process.

Tata is introducing a hot gas blower system instead of traditional wood, which increases control and provides both reduce and cleaner emission is installed. New technology includes airlflow monitoring and will allow UK Tata steel to control the combustion and energy efficiency of the kiln which will save overall energy used and cost. Uk Tata steel is aiming to produce at net-zero steel by 2050 and by 2030 reduce 30per cent of CO2 emissions. The majority of work will take place in the largest operation site Port Talbot which is in South Wales. The company has informed that it is a detailed developing plan for the future, it is transitioning the future steelmaking based on low CO2 technologies and is close to knowing which will best help achieve its ambition.
