Coal imports at Major Ports down

Steam and thermal coal imports fell by 17.37% at the Major Ports to 29.82 million tonnes (mt) during April-July 2017-18 from 36.09 mt in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, according to data from Indian Ports Association (IPA).

Coking coal handling, too, declined by 4.45% to 16.51 mt.

The government had recently announced that India has moved from a situation of coal scarcity to coal surplus.
